New Tehri is a well planned town, A new town sprang up almost overnight on the banks at river Bhagirathi at a height of 1,.550mtrs. above the sea level.

New Tehri has replaced the old Tehri as the district headquarter of Tehri Garhwal. Its' an engineering wonder in the Himalayas. To provide electricity to the far flung areas of the hills, a mojor dam project has been executed here, fighting against the tenacious nature.

The real problem was to rehabilitate the huge population of the area. It has been accomplished. To New Tehri is Asia's most comprehensive and most successful rehabilitation exercise. A fascination new town with all the modern amenities.

The nearest railhead is Rishikesh, 76 kms. Away.

the City is well connected by roads with all the major cities of the area. Old Tehri - 16 kms., mssoorie 11 kms., Chamba 12 kms., Haridwar 97 kms., Dehradun 114 kms.

New Tehri is different from other hill stations. Chamba
12 kms. From New Tehri, Chamba is a fascinating town at the height of 1,676 mtrs. A sleepy town in the background of the mighty Himalayas, overlooking the serene Bhagirathi valley. At the crossroads of mussoorie, Rishikesh, Tehri and new Tehri, Chamba is known as a major Apple growing center.

Old Tehri
16 kms. From New Tehri, at the confluence of Bhagirathi and Bhilangana rivers. Its importance is due to its strategic location as a transit point to Yamnotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Surkhanda Devi
The famous mountain top shrine at an altitude of 2,903 mtrs., In the mid of a dense forest. Surkhanda Devi is an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. This temple was originally uilt in 13th century. A beautiful architecture depicts the unique hill-style. Every year, a fair is held in the month of May June, during Ganga Dussera.
